Iceland Ultra Race Report 2009

The team have recently returned back from the Iceland Ultra Race, race director Steve Clark has written the race report about the 09 event.

Namibia Ultra Race about to set off……

It’s only a few days until our team of runners set off on the ultimate endurance test in the Namibian Desert.   The Namibia 24-hour ultra marathon is a race over 126km in 24-hours, all contestants will be completely self reliant from the start to finish and will need to carry all their own food and equipment on their backs.  For 2009 we have a Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton and a team from Men’s Fitness magazine joining us.

Spanish 24hr Ultra Marathon 2010

Our newest race to be added to our portfolio of races.  The Spanish 24hr Ultra Race is of an extreme nature, covering 126kms in searing temperatures over mountainous terrain in just 24 hours. 

Contestants will be completely self reliant from the start of the race until the end, and will need to carry their food and equipment on their backs. Water stations and medical tents will be provided at 20km intervals along the route. Temperatures are expected to be in the region of min 5ºc / max 40 ºc but could be more extreme.

Team Men’s Fitness join us on Namibia Ultra Training Weekend

We are delighted that Men’s Fitness are joining us on the Namibia Ultra Marathon coming up in April.  Team Men’s Fitness, as they are known, came down to Somerset last weekend to take part in our training weekend.  We had previous runners of the race come along, lots of lengthy runs and the event Doctor on hand to give advice on dehydration. Expedition & Wilderness Medicine are to provide the medical cover for the Commonwealth Championship for Mountain ATD Adventure RacingRunning and Ultra Distance. The events will run over four days in September 2009, and Keswick has been chosen as the venue.

 

 

Expedition & Wilderness Medicine Director, Dr Sean Hudson is acting as the Medical Director for the event and overseeing the medical care for the many international and local competitors who will be involved in a number high profile races. In conjunction with ATD Adventure Racing they will be managing the medical logistics and communication for the event.

Inaugural Namib Ultra Marathon finishes

120 kilometres from Namibia’s highest peak Brandberg to its desolate Skeleton Coast crossing some of Namibia most dramatic and unforgiving landscapes.

 

The first Namibia Desert Marathon finished with a winning time of 17 hours and 15 minutes set by Tom Maguire- an incredible time and a course record to beat.
